Charles G. De Leo

Practice Areas:

Charles has represented vessel, owners, operators, P&I clubs and other marine insurers for over 30 years. His practice includes a variety of marine litigation areas including personal injury and death claims, natural resource damage, collisions, hull and cargo, yachts and products liability. He is frequently involved in major marine casualties and environmental claims throughout the Americas and enjoys a native fluency in both written and spoken Spanish and English having grown up in South America to American parents.

Professional Activities and Awards:

Charles is ranked in the top tier of maritime lawyers by Chambers USA and currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Maritime Law Association of the United States (MLA) and was previously Chair of the MLA Marine Torts and Casualties Committee. He also serves as a maritime member of the Local Rules Committee for the US District Court for the Southern District of Florida and is Vice President for the US of the Ibero American Institute of Maritime Law (IIDM).

Education:

Charles obtained his JD degree from Tulane University Law School. He also holds a BA degree from the University of California at Los Angeles, having first also studied at Pomona College. He also attended Portsmouth Abbey School and Escuela Campo Alegre.

Admissions:

Charles is admitted to all state and federal courts in Florida, the US Court of Appeals for the 11th Circuit and the US Supreme Court.
